“It's been three seasons since I started painting with extracts by rubbing flowers and leaves on canvas. I started to make the paintings naturally in their own season. Sunlight decreases and increases, constantly falling and fading; in endless bloom and growth.”
“Even after transmitting them on canvas, the extracts keep changing colors. They are enchanting. These flowers did not end up mixing with the soil and turning into sand. I am happy to see that they continue to live on the painting.”
Murat Yıldız’s artistic experimentation revolves around how people and objects shape one another, both consciously and unconsciously. He develops series that illustrate the traces or the recordings of the changes and transformations that people and objects undergo. He organizes processes that capture these changes. He himself as an artist operates almost as an un-present protagonist that channels the recordings by fully surrendering to the processes themselves. With every following series he organizes, his method attains to a more refined abstraction in which the role of the artist diminishes to a lesser visibility.
Born in 1984, Murat Yıldız studied Combined Arts at Yıldız Technical University and completed his
master’s degree in Fine Arts at St. Joost School of Art & Design in the Netherlands. He is the co-founder of Dream News which is a publication that seeks to shape the time we live in, and gives
the news of the future of today’s dreams, through research, interviews, and workshops.
He is part of HAH Kolektif, an Istanbul based artist collective. He participated in artist research programs in 2016 and 2019 at Lähde!, Artist in Community program, KulttuuriKauppila in Finland and Het Vijfde Seizoen, Den Dolder in Holland in 2019. He will participate in the upcoming residency Platform Living Room Artist Residency in Rotterdam- Netherlands in 2023. He also exhibited his works in group exhibitions in the Netherlands and Turkey and exhibited his first solo show “Water is Sandpaper, You are My Eye” with Öktem Aykut in 2022.
